XENIAS ON THE ROAD HASTA TIERRA DEL FUEGO!

We are about to embark on The Journey of Our Lifetime. We start from Denver, Colorado in April 2014 with the objective to reach Tierra del Fuego in Argentina in February 2015. Why are we doing this? What came up through our minds this evening of February 2013 that led to this great adventure? Let us first introduce ourselves: we both share the same first name, among many other things, Xénia, so we will call ourselves Xénia D. and Xénia G. We are both in our early forties, both single. We met in Ghana in 2010 through a common friend, while working there. We developed our great friendship gradually over the months, doing more and more activities together, such as playing badminton, golf, eating out, going to the beach and so on. We started to vacation together, first to Tanzania, then South Africa, Croatia, Liberia and Turkey.

On a fateful Friday morning in May 2012, Xénia D. had a stroke and all of a sudden could not utter any words. She was repatriated to France shortly after, where she spent four months recovering and learning to speak again, from scratch, first French, then English. These were tough times for both of us; Xénia G. had to deal around the same time with a case of theft from a close colleague at work, who abused her trust. Xénia D. came back to Ghana in September 2012, where she resumed her work, despite all the difficulties and exhaustion linked to the aftermath of the stroke, while continuing speech therapy. 2012 was one of these years. We both waited eagerly for 2012 to finish and 2013 to come. One evening of February 2013, we were having dinner and were chatting about the usual and never-ending issues at our respective workplaces.  Then Xénia D. said, why don’t we leave all this nonsense behind and drive the Panamericana on a camper? It took less than thirty seconds for Xénia G. to agree that it was a fantastic idea, and well, why not after all… we only have one life, as far as we know. Let’s do something larger than life; let’s have this great project that will give us purpose and will put behind these difficult times.

Now, here we are, ready to go on this new adventure, The Journey of our Lifetime.
